ABOUT THE MUSIC

Luigi BOCCHERINI - String Quintet op. 11, no. 6 “L’Uccelleria”

Boccherini was an 18th-centruy Italian composer and virtuoso cellist who wrote over 100 quintets with two cellos. This one has passages that imitate the sounds of birds, which gave it the nickname L'Uccelleria - which in English means "the Aviary"

Rebecca CLARKE - Sonata for Viola and Piano

A trailblazing composer and violist, Rebecca Clarke defied the social norms of her era to become one of the most important women composers in history.

Robert SCHUMANN - Piano Quintet in E flat major, op. 44

A quintessential piece of music from the Romantic era, described by the composer's wife as "splendid, full of vigor and freshness" and now one of the most well-known works of chamber music ever written.
