Pre-Festival Apéro
Meet French cellist Raphaël Jouan
Join us for a pre-festival “apéro” in partnership with the Okanagan French Cultural Centre, and get to know French cellist Raphaël Jouan, ClassicalValley’s first European guest artist.
Cellist Raphaël Jouan lives and Paris and will be coming to British Columbia for the first time this May for ClassicalValley, supported by the Okanagan French Cultural Centre.
Raphaël has had an incredible year, releasing a critically acclaimed recording of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with his hometown symphony. It has been named an “unmissable new classical recording” by Gramophone Magazine, the leading authority in classical music. At the same time, he is a founding member of the award-winning Trio Hélios, and also finds time to explore his passion for improvisation and Jazz.
Enjoy a glass of Okanagan wine while listening to Raphael perform on his exceptional 1710 Matteo Gofriller cello alongside artistic director Cameron Crozman, followed by a conversation between the two about Raphaël’s incredible musical journey, their shared time in Paris, and more. Questions from the audience are welcome!
NB – Spoken parts of this event will be in both French and English
Musical program to be announced from the stage.
