Nicolas Covaser

DOUBLE BASS

At age 15, Nicholas Covaser is a double bass player by trade. Under the direction of Meaghan Williams, he studied this instrument for seven years: he has participated in various concerts, national and international competitions, and chamber groups during this time, and he has since become an ARCT candidate with RCM. However, it is not his first instrument: before picking up the bass, he studied piano and violin since he was five and seven years old respectively, and since last year, he has also begun to play the viola.

Nicholas regularly performs with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra with the double bass and the violin; he has been the principal double bassist of the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2018, in which he also plays viola. He has won numerous awards, distinctions, and scholarships with all his instruments on local and national levels and has performed in many charitable events hosted by the local music community. Most recently, he has received the Arnold Draper Young Artist Award in its inaugural year; his international presence with the double bass only grows.

Nicholas also enjoys composing and has received the Lorna Paterson Composing Award for Outstanding Overall Composition, offered by the Kelowna Community Music School in the 2023 KCMS Composing Contest.
